I bought some Hillshire Farms Smoked Turkey Sausage and my husband didn't think it would go well with spaghetti-- so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what to do with this sausage....I am looking for SIMPLE ideas, that does not require a lot of ingredients- but casseroles and crock pot ideas are wonderful!Smoked Turkey Sausage recipe ideas?
OMG!! Your husband is sooooooooooo wrong! It's sooo good with spaghetti!!! Just try it! I was actually thinking about cooking that for dinner tonight! Next time, tho, try Butterball instead! I know a recipe with penne pasta, stewed tomatoes........I can't remember it all...just try the spaghetti! Or you could try it in Zatarains jambalaya...that's also delicious and very easy to make!Smoked Turkey Sausage recipe ideas?
roughly chop up a head of cabbage. cut up a couple of potatos. put in a large pot with enough water to cover the food. once potatos and cabbage are tender, add the turkey sausage and cook another twenty minutes or so on a low flame.
i like to add some hot pepper flakes, a little onion and some caraway or fennel seeds but you don't have to.
You could cut it into 3'; pieces and put it in a pot/slow cooker of sauerkraut. It's delicious!
In our family, we would save up (in the freezer) left-over bits of roast beef, kielbossa, smoked sausage we got on sale, etc. and then grind them all together with an onion or two. The resulting ';hash'; would be fried and then mixed with cooked rotini noodles or fried boiled potatoes. A side of sauerkraut or salad and your meal's complete. DELICIOUS !! (Sometimes I'll buy kielbossa and smoked sausage just to grind up with onions and put in freezer bags - all you have to do then is thaw, fry it up and boil a few noodles. Done!! It makes a super-fast lunch!)
Here's two I've been making for years:
Sausage and saffron rice:
Brown 1 inch or bite sized pieces of turkey sausage in a little oil in a deep saucepan with a tight fitting lid.
Add two cups water or chicken broth. Add 1/8 teaspoon saffron or a pinch of saffron threads. Stir. Bring to a boil, and add one cup white rice.
Cover. Lower heat to lowest setting. Set timer for 20 minutes. Do not touch until timer rings.
Open lid, fluff rice and sausage. Serves 4.
Optional: add 1/2 cup cooked peas, or a small can diced Ortega chilies.
Smoked sausage and Cannelloni beans
Serves 4
! package Hillshire Farms smoked turkey sausage, cut into bite sized pieces
1 teaspoon minced garlic
2 cans Cannelloni beans (white kidney beans) drained.
Brown sausage in a skillet. Add garlic. Pour in drained beans, Stir to combine. Cover tightly, lower heat. Cook for 45 minutes, stirring every once in a while. If mix is too dry, add more water, 1/4 cup at a time. Beans should cook down a bit.
This is great with sauerkraut cooked up with some apples, brown sugar, beef consume, and caraway seeds!

This is wonderful! Use your turkey sausage instead of the kielbasa:
Rice and Beans and Sausage
3 celery ribs, chopped
1 onion, chopped
4 garlic cloves, minced
1 3/4 cups V8 juice (or tomato juice)
2 16 oz. cans kidney beans, drained
3/4 tsp dried oregano
3/4 tsp. dried thyme
1/2-3/4 tsp. red pepper flakes (less if you don't like spicy)
1/2 tsp pepper
2 lb. fully cooked smoked kielbasa cut into 1/4 inch slices.
4 cups cooked rice
Combine all ingredients except rice in slow cooker. Cover. Cook on low 4-6 hours. Serve over rice. Yummy!!
