I've quit eating red meat for health reasons so I tried to replace ground beef with ground turkey in some of my families favorite recipes, but they notice the difference. I was hoping if I made things that i haven't before they would actually like the ground turkey. Any ideas?
Also I've tried to do turkey burgers but they end up dry and flavorless any ideas on what might add to a better taste?I'm replacing ground beef with ground turkey and need recipes.?
I replaced ground beef with ground turkey when making tacos for my family. My husband asked what I did different because it tastes so good. I think the ground turkey absorbs flavor very well when making tacos.
2 teaspoons chili powder
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon oregano
6 ounces extra-lean ground turkey
1/2 cup chopped onion
4 whole-wheat, low-fat flour tortillas, about 6 inches in diameter, warmed in the microwave
1/4 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
2 cups shredded lettuce
2 medium tomatoes, diced
1/2 cup salsa
in a small bowl, stir together the chili powder, cumin and oregano.
In a nonstick frying pan, add the ground turkey and onion. Cook over medium heat until the turkey is browned and onion is translucent. Drain well. Add the spices to the turkey mixture. Stir to mix evenly.
To serve, place a 1/4 cup of the turkey mixture in each tortilla. Top each with 1 tablespoon cheese, 1/4 of the diced tomatoes, 1/2 cup shredded lettuce and 2 tablespoons salsa. Fold in both sides of each tortilla up over the filling, and then roll to close. Serve immediately.
Also very good: Turkey Chili
3 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
1 1/2 pounds ground turkey
1 (1 ounce) package taco seasoning mix
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon chili pepper flakes
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 (14.5 ounce) can beef broth
1 (7 ounce) can salsa
1 (14.5 ounce) can crushed tomatoes, or coarsely chopped tomatoes packed in puree
1 (7 ounce) can chopped green chile peppers
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 green bell pepper, diced
3 medium zucchini, halved lengthwise and sliced
1 bunch green onions, chopped
1 cup sour cream
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large stock pot over medium-high heat. Crumble turkey into the pot, stirring with a wooden spoon to break apart as much as possible. Season with taco seasoning mix, coriander, oregano, chili flakes, and tomato paste, and mix until meat is evenly coated with seasonings. Continue cooking, reducing heat if necessary, until turkey is well browned.
Pour in beef broth, and simmer to reduce liquid slightly, about 5 minutes. Add salsa, tomatoes, and green chilies, and continue cooking at a moderate simmer for ten minutes. Adjust the thickness at any time you feel necessary by adding water.
While chili is still cooking, heat one tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook onion and green bell pepper, stirring occasionally for 5 minutes, or until onion is translucent and bell pepper is lightly browned. Add onion and bell pepper to the chili, and continue cooking at a very low simmer.
In the same skillet, heat the remaining tablespoon of oil over medium-high heat. Add the zucchini, and cook stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes, or until lightly browned. Add the zucchini to the chili, reduce heat, and continue cooking 15 minutes more. Again, adjust the consistency with water as needed.
Ladle chili into serving bowls. Top with sour cream, green onion, and cheddar cheese, and serve.I'm replacing ground beef with ground turkey and need recipes.?

Let's address the burgers first, Bets.Turkey cooked by its self always ends up as you described - ';dry %26amp; flavorless';. Here's some tips for good turkey burgers ( or any turkey dish). 1st., try adding any of the following : diced onions, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, A1 sauce, garlic powder, thyme, chopped rosemary, copped marjoram, freshly grated nutmeg or the old ( but great) poultry seasoning. One of my favorites, for individual burgers, is this : take a good handful of ground turkey and place it in a sm. bowl. Add 1 Tbl. diced onion, 4 dashes Worcestershire sauce, 1/4 rounded tsp. thyme. Blend all together till evenly distributed. Pre-heat an 8-inch skillet, over med.low heat, about 2 min. Add 1 Tbl. of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (never a blend-check label, it should list only one country of origin), swirl pan to coat. Cook 3 min.and flip over. Cook other side till juices just run clear. Remove to a plate and let set (rest), 5 min.; juices will redistribute through meat. Always let meats rest at least 5 min. Enjoy !
