I don't eat beef but my boyfriend does and he loves all of these meals. Hope these help you:-)Ground turkey recipes?
I substitute it for beef in lasagna and chili and have found that most people can't tell the difference. I, personally, love turkey burgers. I mix my favourite barbeque sauce into the burger before I cook them. Then I top the burger with bacon, cheddar, tomatoes, onion, lettuce. Yum.
How about turkey meat balls with spaghetti and tomato sauce for the little one?
Worry less about the ground turkey problem and worry more about your spelling and grammar!
.. whew..
Try to use it in Spaghetti, there is enough other flavors in that to not notice the beef change.
I have 4 kids, and most of them liked this (however my 3 year old doesn't like anything even slightly spicy). You may want to try these...just make a patty before adding the curry paste for your little one...
****Thai Burgers****
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 pounds ground turkey breast
1/2 cup cilantro, chopped (about a handful)
1 3-inch knob ginger, peeled and finely grated, divided
2 tablespoons Thai red curry paste
Zest and juice of 1 lime
1 tablespoon honey
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped or grated
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1-2 shallots, chopped
A few dashes of hot sauce (add more if you like it spicy!)
1/4 cup Tamari (dark soy sauce)
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
1 head Bibb lettuce, stem end removed and leaves rinsed, if needed
1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 English (seedless) cucumber, thinly sliced
1/4 cup basil, chopped (a small handful)
Preparation
Place a large skillet over medium-high heat with two turns of the pan of vegetable oil, about 2 tablespoons.
While the oil is heating up, grab a large mixing bowl and add the ground turkey breast, cilantro, about two-thirds of the grated ginger, the red curry paste, lime zest and juice, honey, garlic and salt and freshly ground black pepper.
Use your hands to mix everything up, then press the meat down into the bottom of the bowl. Use the side of your hand to score the meat into four portions. Scoop out one portion and shape it into a burger that is about one inch thick 鈥?don't forget to press it down in the middle to prevent it from bulging while cooking. Shape the rest of the meat the same way to make four burgers. Wash your hands after handling the raw poultry.
Once the oil is hot, place the burgers in the pan and cook them, turning once, until golden brown on the outside and cooked through, about 6 minutes per side.
While the burgers are cooking, get out your blender or food processor and combine the shallots, hot sauce, Tamari, peanut butter, remaining grated ginger and an extra-large splash of water (about 1/2 cup). Turn the machine on and puree everything to make a dipping sauce (if you need it a little thinner, add a little more water 鈥?remember you can always add more water but you can't take it out!). Transfer the sauce to one large or four individual serving dishes and set aside.
When the burgers are about done, prepare four plates or a platter with a small stack of lettuce leaves for each burger. Lay the burgers down over the leaves and top each one with some of the sliced pepper, cucumber and chopped basil. Serve up the burgers with the dipping sauce alongside and a knife and fork.
I made ground turkey (breast) with ground pork for meatballs. It was really good, and you couldn't tell that there was any turkey in there.
1/2 lb turkey 1/2 lb pork
2/3 c italian seasoned bread crumbs
2 eggs
1/2 cup spaghetti sauce
Red pepper - optional
garlic minced --to taste
salt - black pepper
Mix well and roll into 3/4 inch balls , brown balls in olive oil in large skillet or deep sided pan a few at a time. remove, deglace pan with 1/2 red wine. Pour a jar of barilla or ragu sauce in pan - replace meat balls in pan. Cook balls in sauce for at least an hour on low heat. Enjoy!
You know my hubby is the same. He is so negative about turkey that I couldn't even get him to consider trying it. So I got some anyway, and on spaghetti night I used it instead of the ground beef. I cook it then stir in the sauce and let it simmer. Well everyone loved it, in fact he told me it was the best spaghetti he had had in a while. Really I said to him, you liked it a lot did you. He said ya, it was great. Then I told him it was ground turkey. He was surprised, and I make the spaghetti with turkey now all the time. Just sneak it in, and don't tell. Then let them judge.
