try meatloaf or meatballs. same recipe as ground-beef just use Turkey instead
season to taste in meatballs, turkeybrugers, meat loaf, cook like one would with hambruger meat....stuffed peppers with rice
there are lots of recipes out there for ground pork, ground chuck or ground beef (to make hamburgers or meatloaf with)...well you can substitute ground turkey for that, or mix turkey half and half with the ones I mentioned. .
If you go to your meat section and look at the baloney or sausages you will see that those have been made either all the way or partly with beef or pork mixed with turkey. They've been doing that for a long time now. Not sure but that may be a way to keep the price of the product at a price that we can afford and will buy.
I love ground turkey, here is a great recipe!!
GROUND TURKEY ENCHILADAS
1 1/2 lbs ground turkey
1 pkg frozen spinach - thawed and drained
2 cups salsa
1 can diced tomatoes
1 pkg flour tortillas
2 cups Mexican blend cheese
1 8 oz. block cream cheese
ground cumin to taste
Cook ground turkey in skillet until no longer pink over medium heat. Add drained spinach and 1 cup of salsa to turkey and cumin to taste (about 1 tsp). Cook about 5 minutes until all liquid is absorbed. Remove from heat and add cream cheese. Mix until melted.
Lay flour tortilla flat and place 1/3 cup mix, roll and place in greased 13x9 inch pan with flat side up. Bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees.
Remove from oven and top with 1 cup salsa mixed with can of diced tomatoes and additional cumin to taste. Top with cheese. Return to oven for 5 minutes until cheese is melted.
Serve with refried beans and mexican rice. Sour cream and guacamole are also great additions.
take and substitute it in any of your favorite ground beef recipes. we have even made turkey tacos and spaghetti and meatballs
I find that ground turkey can be dry so you want to use it in a recipe that has liquid in it. My personal favourite is for taco meat. Just cook the turkey in a pan with some garlic onions and peppers then add a can of diced tomatoes (yes canned) with out draining them, the juice give good flavour and much needed moisture. Then add a taco seasoning mix that can be purchased in little pouches at almost any grocery store. There you go taco meat, great on a tortilla or in a salad...don;t forget the sour cream.
ground turkey with minces onions ,bread crumbs Italian style, with a raw egg,mix all together to form patties and fry in olive oil, till they turn brown for 6 minutes each side, watch to see don't over cook. best of luck enjoy!
Use it anywhere you would use ground beef. Like in tacos, grilled burgers, chili, shepherd's pie, etc. Here is a favorite--turkey meatballs:
Mix 1 lb ground turkey, 1/4 cup breadcrumbs, 1 egg white, 1 package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained, garlic and onion powder. Make into little balls and drop into simmering any tomato sauce and cook through. Easy and yummy!
anything that you would use ground beef in. it's a healthier and cheaper substitute for beef. if you are making something like burgers, though, where the primary taste is the meat- i would be sure to season the turkey so that your palate is not confused....
You might try a tomato based dish. If you are cooking for two take 1/2 lb to 1 lb of grnd tky. and cook in a skillet. Drain grease and put meat into atleast a quart sized pot. Add one 14 oz size can of crushed tomatos; dice up about 1 tbl spoon onion; shop up about 2 tbl spoons green bell pepper; chop up 1/2 teaspoon garlic; add one bay leaf, 1/4 teaspoon basil/oregano/parsley, 1/2 teaspoon sugar, and 1/4 cup sliced mushrooms. Serve this concoction with cooked plain pasta or rice. I generally mix 1/2 cup rice or elbow macaroni/small shells with 1/2 cup this tomato + turkey concoction. As an option I also add red chilli peppers for a bite and half a can of either black beans or great northern beans to the tomato + trky pot while it is cooking. I simply cook this on med to medhigh for about 1 hour give or take 15 mins or until all onion and green peppers are soft. Stir it every ten to fifteen minutes while it cooks.
