If you want a moist, juicy, and flavorful turkey I would suggest you brine it first. My Mom (known for her cooking) had my turkey which had been brined one time and now uses this recipe for turkey, duck, chicken, and any other fowl my dad brings home.
Brine:
* 3/4 C sea salt
* 1/2 C light brown sugar, packed
* 1 box each chicken and vegetable stock
* 1 T each black peppercorns, powdered ginger, sage, garlic powder, onion powder, all spice, 5 bay leaves
* 2 gallons of ice in a clean 5 gallon bucket
Boil all ingredients except ice, stirring well. Pour over ice and chill to room temperature. Add defrosted turkey breast side down and marinate for 4 hours in a cool place (some do overnight but I find it too long). Rinse the marinade off the bird before roasting.
Stuff bird with a 1 large quartered apple, 2 cinnamon sticks, 4 springs of rosemary, 1 large quartered onion, 6 cloves of smashed garlic. Coat bird liberally with canola oil and roast in preheated 500 degree oven for 45 minutes. Cover breast with foil and reduce heat to 360 degrees. Roast until internal temperature is 160 degrees (about 2 hr. 15 min for a 15 lb bird).Does anyone have a good Turkey recipe for thanksgiving?

I'd suggest you go to the Butterball.com site. They have lots of wonderful recipes and tips dealing with not only turkey, but its side dishes.
You didn't say if you're cooking for just you and your husband or lots of other people. At least in the US (I'm assuming you're in Canada), we can buy a half turkey breast or whole turkey breast instead of the entire bird. This is helpful when there's only a couple people. I get it with the bone-in so I can cook the carcass Thanksgiving night for turkey noodle soup. Leftover turkey can be frozen and used for later meals including casseroles or open faced turkey sandwiches or tettrazini, etc.
The biggest thing is to not be scared! It really doesn't take that much to do the turkey. My time goes into the side dishes and trying to time everything to be done at the right time! The bird can sit on the cutting board covered with aluminum foil while you make gravy on the stovetop and use the oven for other dishes that need to finish.
Enjoy your first Thanksgiving together!
Don't stress, its just like baking a big chicken. Rinse the turkey and sprinkle it with salt and pepper, inside and out. You will need a pan big enough to hold the bird. Cover loosely with foil and put in a 350 degree oven for a couple hours(depending on how much the turkey weighs) Take off the foil for the last half hour or so to brown up the skin. Cover back up with the foil after removing and let it rest for about 15 minutes so the juices redistribute. If your making stuffing, do it in a seperate pan as the inside of the bird is no place to cook side dishes.
for your first turkey,buy a baking bag for a turkey,salt and pepper well,and put in the clear bag,tie shut with the tie that comes with the bag, there will be a lot of juice in the bag when the turkey is cooked to make gravy if you like. Your turkey will be very moist and well done.
You could try deep frying it. It takes 3min per pound. It makes the turkey incredibly moist. I had to convince my husband to try at first but now he won't eat it any other way.
spend a few moments at this site.... always the best!
