I bought a package of turkey bacon and I need to use it asap. I'm not going to eat a whole package myself in a day or two, so I decided I want to use it in an appetizer or dip of sorts to bring to a party I'm going to tommorrow (I'm not sure how cinco de mayo-ish turkey bacon is, but whatever, I'm not trying to be theme-y or anything). Help me use my turkey bacon!! Also, please no recipes that require beef or pork or any meat other than poultry, ideally, the bacon would be the only meat in the dish :) Thanks!Any appetizers that use a package of turkey bacon (or bacon recipes where turkey bacon would be an ok sub?)?
honey you can use turkey bacon in any recipe to replace bacon, but here are a couple of ideas

10 8-inch flour tortillas

You can use it wherever regular bacon is called for but cook it up and wrap them around whole water chestnuts then hold with a toothpick.
Stuff some Jalapeno's w/ cheese then wrap the bacon around %26amp; grill - yumm
Make a broccoli salad and crumble up the cooked turkey bacon inside. Just Broccoli florets, mayo, a little vinegar and the bacon.
Try this: Get some freshly grated parmesan cheese and Ritz crackers. Wrap the Ritz Crackers in the turkey bacon, sprinkle the parmesan cheese over them, and bake them in the oven until the bacon if fully cooked.
They're awesome. If you use regular bacon, they are too greasy, but turkey bacon isn't as much.
crustless bacon quiche is my favorite.
Cook the pkg until crisp, then break it all up in small pieces. cook 1 onion until soft.
Separately, whisk together 8 eggs, 1 cup milk and a dash of salt and cayenne pepper.
When mixed, stir in the onion, bacon and 1 cup of your favorite cheese, shredded.
Bake in a buttered 9'; cake pan at 350 degrees for an hour and you have breakfast for an entire week, or a very yummy appetizer.
I always put my cake pan on a cookie sheet, as it will be very close to the top of the cake pan and if you spill it a little it won't make a mess.
Steam some veggies and wrap the bacon around it. You can probably cut the bacon in 3's for this.Hold it in place with a cute toothpick and serve it with a side of sour cream-horseradish dip. ( bacon and horse radish goes well)
I would suggest taking out as much as you can use for yourself, cutting the strips in half --half the package (will be easier to get apart later), wrap each half (half the package) in plastic wrap and freeze. You can take out small portions to use for youself.
I only eat turkey bacon and this is what I've done with it. I love it, but here's no comparison in taste, so I wouldn't try it out on unknowing guests just yet... not before you've tried it in diff. recipes yourself first. Try a few things for yourself, or maybe you and a friend or family member and they can help you judge whether or not the recipe works with the turkey bacon.
-- OR --
I would think they'd work in a quiche recipe, and you could probably add the crumbled and cooked turkey to almost any quiche recipe... be nice finely chopped in mini quiches, or reg. sized. That might be the way to go for guests... it's well hidden among other flavors and ingredients, but would still give the quiche a nice, subtle flavor and added texture. Makes me want to find a recipe to try myself. Here's a simple version using Bisquik:
INGREDIENTS
6 slices bacon, chopped
1 onion, chopped
3 eggs
3/4 cup buttermilk baking mix
1 1/2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
2 cups shredded American cheese
DIRECTIONS
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease 2 mini muffin pans. In a large skillet over medium heat, fry bacon and onion together for about 5 minutes, or until bacon is crisp. Drain and set aside.
In a medium bowl, beat the eggs. Stir in the baking mix, parsley, shredded cheese, bacon and onion. Spoon into greased muffin cups.
Bake for 10 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the tops are lightly browned. Allow mini quiches to cool in the pan before carefully removing with a small knife or spatula.
I'd check out this website for more recipes too.
